Good old-fashioned helpful advice is something you can always count on at any New City Heating branch.
One of our customers recently called to ask if we could recommend someone to unblock a gully that was causing a flood in the recent storms, and every time he tried to jet wash his driveway.
We gave him some of our trade customers’ numbers to call.
Drain Doctor came out same-day, identified the problem and quickly solved it. Their high-pressure hose blew out the blockage.
The engineer explained that the problem was caused by a missing grommet, or cap, on the gully bottle trap. A trap – as its name suggests – collects debris at the bottom and prevents it from blocking the gully. Without the cap in place, debris was collecting at the bottom AND heading straight down the gully until it was blocked solid. The engineer suggested: “You need to go somewhere like New City Heating – measure the size of the hole and they will find something suitable.”
Sure enough, our customer sent us some photographs of the bottle trap and we found a suitable rubber seal to make an access cap tightly fit in the aperture.
The bottle trap can now work properly. Any accumulation of leaves, dirt and sand (which often washes from block paving into drains) can now be periodically scooped from the bottom of the trap. In the unlikely event that the gully ever becomes blocked again the new access cap can be removed to give access to a high-pressure drain clearance hose.
